John D'arcy Coulson was born in Sudbury, Ontario on February 17,1908. John signed with the Philadelphia Quakers as a free agent on December 15, 1930. He scored 0 goals and added 0 assists but amassed 103 penalty minutes in only 28 games, to lead the violent Quaker squad. The Quakers finished the 1930-31 season with the worst record in NHL history, a horrible 4-36-4. He left hockey to help his father run a chain of hotels which included the Coulson Hotel in Sudbury. John died on April 13, 1996.
