Ray Bourque, born to be a defenseman, proved his position in all aspects of the game of hockey. Better known as "Bubba", Ray started playing hockey in the QMJHL in 1976 with the Sorel Black Hawks then joined the Verdun Black Hawks for the 1977 to 1979 season. His big break came in 1979 when he was picked 8th overall in the 1st round of the NHL entry draft for the Boston Bruins. In his 21 years as a Bruin, Ray amassed a whopping 1,612 games, 410 goals and 1169 assists. As a defenseman for the Boston team, Ray also won the Calder Memorial Trophy in the 1979-80 season. Between 1986 and 1994, he won 5 James Norris Trophy and also a King Clancy Trophy to boot in the 1991-92 season. Not winning the Stanley Cup with the Boston Bruins in 21 years, Ray asked to be traded to the Colorado Avalanche in the 2000 NHL season. His dream of winning the Stanley Cup came true in June 2001 raising the Cup high and proud. Ray Bourque retired that year to spend more time with his family and friends. Number 77 will always be remembered as one of the greatest defenseman in the NHL.
